Overview

Our excursion stars at the Liberty Square, the center of the city. We will take a walk on Baratashvili Avenue, and enter the downtown through the former Dighomi Gates. I will tell you why the backyards are called “Italian yards”, how locals live. You will witness the everyday life of Tbilisi yourself.

In Tbilisi, no one will kick a visitor out from his yard – on the contrary, based on Georgian hospitality, residents actively communicate, and sometimes even invite passersby for a chat. You will learn what role balconies have played for the main Georgian city for a long time and what Tbilisi has in common with Moscow.

I will introduce you to the history of Chardin Street, named after the French Catholic missionary. Today it resembles the Champs Elysees with numerous restaurants and cafes, boutiques and salons. We will also visit the Catholic Cathedral, the Church of Jvaris Mama and even the statue of the Toastmaster.

On the Bridge of Peace and in the Rike Park you will appreciate the modern architecture and high-tech beauty of the city. In the Narikala fortress and the famous Abanotubani, you will recognize the features of the Persian heritage. We will see a statue of a pheasant, from which history of Tbilisi began, and sulfur baths, which Pushkin and Dumas loved to visit.

In the authentic wine cellar, you can try several varieties of Georgian wine.

Temple of Sameba. Built on the hill, a beautiful and majestic building attracts the eyes of visitors from virtually anywhere in the city. Despite its “youth”, the Temple is especially valuable, since it became the main cathedral of the entire Georgian Orthodox church. The territory, with numerous buildings located on it, is simply enormous - over 5000 m². It will take a long time to get around to examine it completely.

Mtatsminda - holy mountain, where the specially revered saint in Georgia - David of Gareji used to live in the 5th century in the cave.
In the XIX century, above the cave of St. David, a temple was built, and the Pantheon grew around. The Russian writer and diplomat, Alexander Griboedov is buried there. His grave, as well as the grave of his wife, Nina Chavchavadze, are still here. From Saint David church we will climb higher to the observation deck on the top of the mountain, from where snowy peaks of the Caucasus mountains can be seen in good weather.

Turtle Lake is surrounded by a picturesque forest, so the air here is clean and fresh. Thanks to mountain springs, it is an ideal place for country rest. Around the lake there is a comfortable pebble beach with sun loungers and umbrellas available for rent. The lake is not very suitable for swimming because of the muddy bottom. This place great for families with children, with special playgrounds available.
